A Call for Dignity of all People

As women of the Church, we, the Leadership Team of the Sisters of Charity, BVM, are called to give strong public witness against oppression brought about by unjust political and social structures, locally, nationally, and internationally. We seek to cultivate a faith community where all experience a deep belonging including our transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive siblings. The Gospel calls us to love one another and compels us to interrupt harmful interactions in daily life and dismantle systems that reinforce violence in society. We lament the passing of H.F. 583 ending the protections for transgender Iowans and removing gender identity as a protected class. The safety, rights, and dignity of all people must be protected.
