Advent Week One
“Watch” This warning has been sounded in our ears many times over the course of our lives. Sometimes it heralded something wondrous: “Watch what happens when we add water.” Sometimes it is shouted for our health: “Watch out for the cars!” When I was younger, my mother would say to me, “Watch what you are doing!” when I was careless with tasks. We have heard it so much, I have heard it so much, that I think I have become complacent about watching, become careless, unfocused.
On this first Sunday of Advent, Jesus tells us, “Watch!” It rings in my soul as a reminder: Prepare the way! I need to watch over my thoughts, my actions, my goings and comings. Watch that I am readying for the coming of Jesus, that I am aware and focused on helping others, on making the world, or at least my part of the world, ready.
Let us together prepare. Let us pay special attention to the ways we can watch, can make ready for God in our lives every day.
Thank you, Grace, for your thoughtful reflections on the simple word, “Watch.” A good reminder to all of us to be ever watchful to see how Jesus comes to us in and through the people we encounter every day, this Advent and beyond.
Thinking of all of you in California as well keeping “watch” over the fires.
Blessings as we move through these special weeks.
Pat
Thank you, Grace, for enriching and expanding the word, “watch.”
May we be watchful this Advent Season.
