Associate Elizabeth Ann Shanley Keimig February 14, 1938- November 27, 2023, Accepted September 23, 1992

Associate and former BVM, Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Shanley Keimig, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Nov.27, 2023.

Elizabeth was born on Feb. 14, 1938, in Davenport, to Maurice and Clara (Mackin) Shanley.

She was a member of the BVM congregation from 1956 to 1966 and her religious name was Janellen. She had four aunts who were BVMs of whom she was fond, Jane Mackin, Bernardine Mackin, Gregory Mackin, and Berchmans Mackin.

On September 23, 1992, Elizabeth was welcomed into BVM affiliate at the recommendation of BVM Kathleen Mullin who stated that Elizabeth, “is serious about seeking balance and integration of spirituality, justice, and relationships, and she is fun.”

She married Justinian “Jack” Keimig on June 12, 1971, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and helped raise seven of his children and together they had two more children. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2014.

Elizabeth attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy for high school and received her B.A. from San Diego College for Women. Elizabeth taught school for 25 years, including 18 years at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, where she also attended as a child.

For as long as her health permitted, Elizabeth was an active associate in the Iowa City Cluster and attended a myriad of assemblies, gatherings, and retreats. She was especially fond of spending time with her set members. She was a dedicated friend, avid reader, and enjoyed embroidery, and volunteering when possible.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at St. John Vianney, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a rosary prior to the visitation. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service in the gathering space at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
