BVM Associate Katherine “Katy” Mary O’Shea of San Francisco, California, passed away on September 4, 2022. Her funeral mass was celebrated on September 13 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Preservation Fund.

Katy was born May 19, 1930, in San Francisco. She graduated from St. Paul’s Grammar School and St. Paul’s High School, taught by many BVM sisters. Her cousin was BVM Mary Ann Shea. Katy retired after 43 years of service with Letterman Army Medical Center, finishing as Chief of Medical Education.

Katy was an active member of St. Paul’s, serving on the parish staff and the Preservation Committee, chairing the committee for the parish’s centennial celebration, and establishing the annual Auction and Dinner Dance. She was also proud of her Irish heritage, a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and a charter member of the United Irish Cultural Center.

Katy became a BVM Associate July 16, 2013, companioned by her long-time friend, Associate Marilyn Highlander-Pool. She celebrated her commitment ceremony at Mt. Carmel in Dubuque, IA, on August 4, 2013. In her sharing at the ceremony, Katy said, “my whole life has been shaped in the ideals and values of the BVM Community.” “She lived the core values,” shared Marilyn, “and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.”

May Katy rest in peace, and may Perpetual Light shine upon her.

Condolences may be sent to Associate Marilyn Highlander-Pool.
