BVM Core Values Depend on Education
According to a booklet outlining core values of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, education is the “process of calling forth the gift and potential of ourselves and others.”
In explaining the core values to Clarke University students, BVM Lois Dolphin says “it seems to me the core values of freedom, justice, and charity depend on education.
“Education results in freedom from poverty, ignorance, bigotry, and close-mindedness. It results in the freedom to be one’s best and most authentic self,” Lois says. “Education leads to justice. Once we learn about injustice, we are compelled to uncover it and try to correct it.”
