Gift Giving
How might this season of gift giving look different?
Laudato Si’ calls us to a new lifestyle based on Gospel values and care for all of creation. As we enter this season of Advent and preparations for celebrating Christmas how are we being called to develop new convictions, attitudes and forms of life. (# 202)
During this season “the market tends to promote extreme consumerism in an effort to sell its products… We can easily get caught up in a whirlwind of needless buying and spending. Compulsive consumerism is one example of how the techno-economic paradigm affects individuals”. (#203)
“Purchasing is always a moral – and not simply economic – act.” Today, in a word, “the issue of environmental degradation challenges us to examine our lifestyle.” (# 206)
