The theme of the 2021 International Day of Peace is: Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable WorldEstablished in 1981 by the United Nations, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. Peace Day is observed around the world each year on September 21.

The Dubuque International Day of Peace Committee is hosting the nationally recognized speaker, Olga Marina Segura. She will address Faith Communities and Liberation at 7:00 pm CDT, Tuesday, Sept. 21, Alumni Campus Center at Loras College in Dubuque, IA.  You may also view it via Facebook live at www.facebook.com/dbqdayofpeace.

Creating peace and building relationships takes patience and perseverance every day, wherever you are. May this be your mantra:

Grant me courage to speak up when I witness injustice.

Grant me boldness to do the right thing.

Grant me integrity to do and say what I profess to believe.

Grant me perseverance to listen and engage in dialogue when I am uncomfortable.

Create a personal mantra then consider, “Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of God” (Author unknown).

  1. Nancy,
Your message is greatly appreciated at this time. I have copied the prayer as my way of reminding me of my part in being and becoming a peaceful presence in stressful times. THANK YOU!
    Blessings,
    Carol Marie

  2. “Creating peace and building relationships takes patience and perseverance every day
wherever you are.” ——tell me about it——have been working on this for 84 years! I used to think that when I retire on the serene hills of Mount Carmel with a beautiful chapel, more time for prayer and holy, seasoned sisters all around, THEN it will be achieved. You give us so many helps, Nancy and this International Day of Peace is yet another reminder how interconnected we all are and that we are still creating. . . . .
