Lenten Reflection: For the Fifth Friday of Lent
In the reading for this week, Jeremiah says, “The Lord will make a new covenant and plant the law in our hearts.” We know the law is one of LOVE and so we understand within us is that love and the presence of God are in our lives.
Lent is a perfect time to take notice and reflect.
A key element of reflection (heard recently from a pastor) is SILENCE. We need silence in order to recognize God’s presence in our hearts and acknowledge the reality we possess in our hearts.
It is easy to find God’s presence when life is good and we know God is rejoicing with us.
The challenge comes when the tragedy, challenge or difficulty faces us, and God does not seem near. We ask, “Where is God?” Whether it is in a crime of shooting young children or fires burning the land or a government sending people home after 30-40 years in the US, knowing God is present with all these people in pain is comforting. We especially take notice of those in need of prayer and comfort from us.
In our silence we can listen, listen for ways we can address the changes needed in our own lives and the ways we can respond to the others God is calling us to reach out to in love.
Thank you, Mary Ann, for reminding us of the importance and power of silence in our lives and the resulting impact beyond ourselves.
You are so welcome.
THANKS so much, Mary Ann. Your words are just what I (& so much of the world) need to hear today.
A beautiful reminder. Thanks, Mary Ann.
Thanks Mary Ann, this was very pertinent for me at this time as I try to stand with a friend who is grieving her mother’s loss and my loss of a dear friend. Thanks much. Elizabeth

Thank Mary for this deep reflection. How much are we needed by listeneng God’s voice. This is powerful with the silence to listen the signs of this time for been prophets of social justice.
Love to you.
Thanks, Mary Ann for your reflections which remind us of God’s presence in all of creation and especially within all those who are suffering so much today. The call for us to be present to the God in all and respond with loving action. Only in the silence will be find the direction and inspiration.
