Maurine Therese Thiel, BVM

Sister Maurine Therese Thiel, BVM, 86, of 1130 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, died Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Caritas Center.

Visitation, Sharing of Memories and Mass of Christian Burial were on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in the Marian Hall Chapel. Burial was in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Sister Maurine Therese volunteered as a special needs aide at St. Francis ES in Dubuque, Iowa.  She was a primary teacher in Chicago; Lincoln, Ill.; and Kansas City, Mo. and a primary teacher aide in Norridge, Ill. She was a volunteer catechist in Waukegan, Ill. where she also volunteered for the BVM Associate program.

She was born on July 9, 1931, in Chicago to Max Joseph and Margaret Keating Thiel. She entered the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1949, from Our Lady of Angels Parish, Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1952, and final vows on July 16, 1957.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Br. Joachim Thiel, O.P. She is survived by a brother Max (Joetta) Thiel, Killingworth, Conn.; nephews; a niece; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 68 years.
