Mount Carmel Bluffs Architect Group Wins Award

  • communications

Mount Carmel Bluffs architect group, Pope Design Group, is the winner of the 2023 Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Awards for Campus Renovation/Repositioning. Mount Carmel Bluffs is a shared ministry of the Sisters of Charity, BVM and Presbyterian Homes & Services.

Mount Carmel, the home of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), was established in 1889. Nearly 5,000 women have entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM. Today, there are more than 200 sisters, with an average age of 84. The Sisters realized they needed help developing their campus and services to provide care for their aging community, while maximizing the 108-acre campus to continue their mission of service to others.

To achieve this goal the Sisters of Charity, BVM partnered with Presbyterian Homes & Services. Together, they enlisted the help of Pope Design Group, an architecture and interior design company headquartered in Minnesota, to bring their plans to fruition. Through their vision, Pope Design Group brought new life to the historic BVM campus, showcasing the original Motherhouse, and creating functional links to new housing and renovated/repurposed spaces. Their plans respected the land, preserving many of the existing trees, and creating more greenspace and river views.

Congratulations Pope Design Group! The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Presbyterian Homes & Services thank you for your vision and care, and celebrate with you on this well-deserved award!
