See What You Believe

In the first faint light of dawn
Before I thought what to believe
I saw a silhouette of a cat,
Perched atop a leafless tree.

While I was wondering
How it got up there and
If it had spent the night
It hooted like a great horned owl
Then leapt and swooped away.

I smiled even as I asked myself
What difference does it make
If I believe in owls or cats,
Since I am not a mouse?

I was reminded how I
Once heard some someone say –
If we believe too much in hammers
Every thing will look like a nail.

It made me wonder
What the world looked like
To Jesus or the Buddha,
Who believed so much in love.
