Sister Linda (Frances Joan) Quinones, BVM

Sister Linda (Frances Joan) Quinones, BVM, 83, of Mount Carmel Bluffs, 1160 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024.

Visitation, the Sharing of Memories, and the Mass of Christian Burial were on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. Burial was in the Mount Carmel cemetery. Funeral services can be viewed at: https://stream.prestosports.com/bvmsisters

Sister Linda was born Feb. 28, 1941, on Kauai in Hawaii, to Frank and Haruko (Oshima) Quinones. She entered the BVM congregation July 31, 1960, from St. Catherine Parish, Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii. She professed first vows on Feb. 2, 1963, and final vows on Feb. 2, 1968.

Sister Linda served as a school resource person and secretary to the dean at Blanchet HS and as a parish worker at St John Parish, both in Seattle. She was the school secretary at Most Holy Redeemer, and school secretary and librarian at St Thomas More, both in San Francisco. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Boys’ Club in Fremont, Calif, and as bookkeeper and office manager for a construction company and a printing company, both in Union City, Calif. She was missioned as a housekeeper at Our Lady of the Angels Academy in Clinton, Iowa, and Our Lady of Guadalupe College in Los Gatos, Calif., and volunteered at a senior center, a hospice and her parish in Kilauea, Hawaii.

“At the time of her Golden Jubilee, Linda wrote, ‘God has blessed me at every step of the way on the journey that is my life. The gift of caring for others was mine at an early age and, as a call to religious life slowly took hold, it [became] a source of joy. The constant and continuous love of God keeps coming my way through people, places, and events. Many times, God’s gifts come as a surprise. . . The joyous love of God comes over my life. I am grateful.’” (Eulogy.)

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Frank (Flo), James, and Mitchell (Charlene) Quinones; sister Irene (Arnold) Ujimori; and brothers-in-law Peter Ng and Manuel Ang. She is survived by sisters Doris Ng and Beverly Ang, both of Honolulu, Hawaii; nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 64 years.

Memorials may be given to Sisters of Charity, BVM, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA 52003, or online at https://www.bvmsisters.org/support_donate.cfm

  1. I was a nurse working with Linda during my time at Mt. Carmel. When I relocated to the west coast, every Christmas I came back and hung out with her in the Motherhouse. Rest in peace sister Linda.
