U.S. Capitol: Prayers for Peace

Statement from the Leadership Council of the Sisters of Charity, BVM in response to the breach on the U.S. Capitol:

We decry and are deeply saddened by the violence caused by protesters at the U.S. Capitol today. While we are staunch supporters of individual rights under the First Amendment, freedom of speech cannot justify harm to others nor should it thwart lawful processes intended for the larger common good. We pray that peace will be restored quickly, and that there be no harm to bystanders, federal employees, or the women and men whose roles are to protect our citizens and public servants.
